he Mercat de la Sagrada Família traces its origins to the mid-1940s, when the open-air market on Sicília Street moved to the former General Motors facility, a building the market still occupies today. The new market opened in 1944, and in 1993, a major commercial renovation was completed to provide a wide and varied selection of food products to a neighborhood of the city near Gaudí’s basilica, which until then had lacked such offerings.
