Ecomercado GR
The Granada Eco-Market is the city’s most established agroecological market, held on the first Saturday of every month along the banks of the Genil River, next to the Granada Convention Center. This organic market in Granada brings together local producers offering fruit and vegetables, bread, olive oil, wine, honey, cheeses, and other organic foods from the Vega de Granada, the Lecrín Valley, the Alpujarra, the Altiplano, Guadix, the Poniente region, the Montes, and the Costa Tropical. The Granada Eco-Market, open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., also features stalls selling natural cosmetics, eco-friendly cleaning products, and traditional local crafts, as well as a packed schedule of workshops, live music, and talks on agroecology. With its tables overflowing with seasonal organic produce and the green backdrop of the Genil River, the Ecomercado attracts hundreds of residents and visitors committed to sustainable Andalusian production every first Saturday of the month.

A little background

he origins of the GR Eco-Market date back to the 1960s, when farmers and craftsmen from the region would travel to the city of Granada to trade and sell their products. As in so many other towns in Granada, street vending emerged in tandem with the agricultural calendar and livestock fairs, and over the generations it established itself as one of the town’s most important social and economic gatherings.
With the arrival of the 21st century and the economic transformation of rural areas, Granada’s weekly street market evolved: it gave way to large textile and footwear stalls, incorporated vendors from other provinces, and became professionalized under municipal regulations. Many of today’s market traders are third- or fourth-generation members of families who have been attending this event for decades, maintaining a direct connection to the city’s commercial fabric.
Today, the Ecomercado GR retains that down-to-earth spirit while adapting to new trends: organic products, contemporary crafts, local cuisine, and a close relationship with consumers that large shopping centers cannot offer. The town council and the vendors’ association collaborate to preserve its traditional character in the very heart of Granada.

How to Get a Stall at the Ecomercado GR
Would you like to set up a stall at the Ecomercado GR market, located at Granada? To sell as a street vendor, you need a municipal street vending permit or license: this is issued by the town council, not the market itself, and typically requires that you be registered as a self-employed individual or a business, be in good standing with the tax authorities and Social Security, and have liability insurance that covers the stall.
Ecomercado GR is held on Saturdays. The exact fee is set by the Granada town council; please check it before submitting your application.
Applications are submitted to the town council, usually online or in person, and may be granted directly (if there are open stalls) or through a public call for stall applications with a waiting list when demand exceeds the number of available stalls. You can download the municipal ordinance on street vending from Granada (check the town council’s official website to make sure it’s still in effect, in case it has been updated).
