he Amio National Livestock Market holds its fair every Wednesday of the year and is historically linked to the livestock fair that gave rise to the A Ascensión festival in Santiago de Compostela. For decades, it was the most important livestock market in Spain.

Today, it remains Galicia’s leading market in terms of livestock volume. According to the market’s own annual report, in 2024 it recorded a total of 77,868 head of livestock, of which 77,080 were cattle, with a total value of 33.7 million euros. The facility is managed by the City Council of Santiago de Compostela.
