A little background

he Noia Medieval Fair was founded in the late 1990s with the aim of reviving the town’s medieval past and turning that heritage into a cultural and tourist attraction. It was not a spur-of-the-moment idea: for centuries, Noia was one of the most important ports on the Galician coast. Portus Apostoli was linked to the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela, where pilgrims arrived by sea to continue the Camino on foot, and during the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries, the town experienced a period of great prosperity based on maritime trade, fishing, and shipbuilding.
The festival doesn’t need to create an artificial atmosphere: it unfolds right on the cobblestone streets, among the Gothic churches, the manor houses, and the arcades of the historic district. It is held every summer, in mid-July, for three days, featuring craft and food stalls, early music, street theater, and fire shows. In 2026, it celebrated its 27th edition.
