Ciudad Jardín Municipal Market
The Ciudad Jardín Market is one of Málaga’s historic municipal markets, located in the district of the same name, in the northern part of the city. This municipal market has about 180 stalls spread across a retail area of nearly 10,000 square meters, and it is the only market in Málaga that is self-managed by its own vendors. Its stalls offer fresh fish, seafood, meats, fruits, and vegetables from the Vega region, as well as preserves and gourmet products from the south linked to Andalusian cuisine. The Ciudad Jardín Market in Málaga is a municipally protected building, renowned for its distinctive central façade featuring three semicircular arches and whitewashed exterior walls. With seven decades of history and several renovations behind it, the Ciudad Jardín Market remains an essential gathering place for residents of the northern part of the capital, attracting thousands of shoppers every week who appreciate the friendly atmosphere of Andalusian markets.

Everything You Need to Know
A little background
he Ciudad Jardín Market in Málaga was designed by architect Luis Gutiérrez Mérida and built between 1950 and 1953. It is a typical example of postwar Autarkic architecture, featuring a central façade dominated by three semicircular arches and whitewashed exterior walls. When it opened, it had 59 stalls divided into three categories: fish tables in the central area, fruit and vegetable stalls, and other shops.
Throughout its history, the Ciudad Jardín Market has been renovated three times—in 1982, partially in 2003, and again in 2008—until it reached its current configuration with 180 stalls. Today, it remains the only municipal market in Málaga managed directly by its merchants, with local heritage protection and a central role in the commercial life of Málaga’s Ciudad Jardín district.
