El Raal Street Market

Murcia, Murcia

The El Raal street market is held every Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Cruce del Raal, in the heart of Murcia’s agricultural region, about ten kilometers east of the capital. It is one of the leading weekly street markets in the Murcian districts and brings together residents from the town itself and nearby towns such as Alquerías, Beniel, Santa Cruz, and Llano de Brujas every week. Among its stalls, you’ll find fresh fruit and vegetables from Murcia’s agricultural region at affordable prices, along with cured meats, nuts, roasted chickens, and churros, as well as a wide selection of clothing, footwear, bedding, jewelry, accessories, cosmetics, and secondhand items. With easy access from the Alicante highway and parking nearby, the Raal Street Market is an ideal way to spend a Sunday morning: supporting local businesses, enjoying the laid-back rural atmosphere, and taking a stroll with the family.

History

A little background

El Raal Street Market — history

l Raal is a hamlet with centuries of agricultural tradition: its earliest documented references date back to 1257 and 1271, and its history has always been linked to the Segura River and the irrigation canals that water the farmland. This legacy as a productive agricultural region explains why local commerce is an integral part of the village’s identity. The current Sunday street market at the Cruce del Raal opened in December 2016, with the aim of providing the eastern part of the Murcian agricultural region with its own weekly street market held on a holiday, and in just a few years, it has established itself as a regular event for both region-based street traders and local families, who combine their daily shopping with the very Murcian custom of “going to the street market” on Sunday mornings.

For Merchants

How to Get a Stall at the El Raal Street Market

Would you like to set up a stall at the El Raal Street Market market, located at Murcia? To sell as a street vendor, you need a municipal street vending permit or license: this is issued by the town council, not the market itself, and typically requires that you be registered as a self-employed individual or a business, be in good standing with the tax authorities and Social Security, and have liability insurance that covers the stall.

El Raal Street Market is held on Sundays. The exact fee is set by the Murcia town council; please check it before submitting your application.

Applications are submitted to the town council, usually online or in person, and may be granted directly (if there are open stalls) or through a public call for stall applications with a waiting list when demand exceeds the number of available stalls. You can download the municipal ordinance on street vending from Murcia (check the town council’s official website to make sure it’s still in effect, in case it has been updated).

Check the procedure on the Murcia town council website: https://www.murcia.es.

  1. Contact the town council's commerce or markets department
  2. Gather the necessary documentation: registration as a self-employed individual or business, proof of being up to date with the tax authorities and Social Security, and liability insurance
  3. Submit the application for a street vending permit (through the online portal or at the registry office)
  4. Pay the applicable municipal fee, if required by the town council
  5. Pick up your authorization and bring it with you on market day
