History

A little background

Monte Alto Street Market — history

he Monte Alto municipal market was built in the 1980s on a municipally-owned vacant lot in the neighborhood. In addition to the fish and meat stalls typical of a food market, it included retail spaces from the outset, many of which were accessible from outside the building.

Between 2022 and 2025, the City of A Coruña undertook a comprehensive renovation of the market. It is located on Forcarei Street, in the heart of Monte Alto, and is part of the city’s network of municipal markets.

How to Get a Stall at the Monte Alto Street Market

Would you like to set up a stall at the Monte Alto Street Market market, located at A Coruña? To sell as a street vendor, you need a municipal street vending permit or license: this is issued by the town council, not the market itself, and typically requires that you be registered as a self-employed individual or a business, be in good standing with the tax authorities and Social Security, and have liability insurance that covers the stall.

Monte Alto Street Market is held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The exact fee is set by the A Coruña town council; please check it before submitting your application.

Applications are submitted to the town council, usually online or in person, and may be granted directly (if there are open stalls) or through a public call for stall applications with a waiting list when demand exceeds the number of available stalls. You can download the municipal ordinance on street vending from A Coruña (check the town council’s official website to make sure it’s still in effect, in case it has been updated).

You can contact the A Coruña town council at empresa@coruna.gal.

  5. Pick up your authorization and bring it with you on market day
