History

A little background

O Burgo Street Market — history

he O Burgo street fair was launched in September 2023 as the second monthly fair in the municipality of Culleredo, after the City Council approved a new ordinance regulating street vending. The decision aimed to revitalize the retail and hospitality sectors and replicate the success of the Vilaboa street market, which has been running since 2005.

It is held on the fourth Thursday of every month on the esplanade of the O Burgo Seaside Promenade, a location that was used occasionally during the pandemic because it offers more space than the market’s usual site. By alternating with the Vilaboa market, the municipality hosts a market every fifteen days.

How to Get a Stall at the O Burgo Street Market

Would you like to set up a stall at the O Burgo Street Market market, located at A Coruña? To sell as a street vendor, you need a municipal street vending permit or license: this is issued by the town council, not the market itself, and typically requires that you be registered as a self-employed individual or a business, be in good standing with the tax authorities and Social Security, and have liability insurance that covers the stall.

O Burgo Street Market is held on Thursdays and Sundays. The exact fee is set by the A Coruña town council; please check it before submitting your application.

Applications are submitted to the town council, usually online or in person, and may be granted directly (if there are open stalls) or through a public call for stall applications with a waiting list when demand exceeds the number of available stalls. You can download the municipal ordinance on street vending from A Coruña (check the town council’s official website to make sure it’s still in effect, in case it has been updated).

You can contact the A Coruña town council at empresa@coruna.gal.

  1. Contact the town council's commerce or markets department
  2. Gather the necessary documentation: registration as a self-employed individual or business, proof of being up to date with the tax authorities and Social Security, and liability insurance
  3. Submit the application for a street vending permit (through the online portal or at the registry office)
  4. Pay the applicable municipal fee, if required by the town council
  5. Pick up your authorization and bring it with you on market day
