History

A little background

he Saldaña Weekly Street Market traces its origins to the free market privilege granted in 1502 by Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, Duke of Infantado, who authorized the holding of a tax-free market every Tuesday in the town of Saldaña.

Since then, the Tuesday market has been held almost without interruption in the Town Council Square and the streets leading off it, adapting over time to the products and needs of each era.

Today, the Saldaña Weekly Street Market retains this historic character as one of the longest-running commercial events in the province of Palencia, managed by the Saldaña Town Council.
