Everything You Need to Know
A little background
he Toledo market hall is located in the Plaza Mayor, a site that has been used for the sale of the city’s fresh produce since the 16th century. Construction of the first building began in 1896 based on a design by municipal architect José Manuel Ortiz, using materials that were innovative at the time—iron, marble, and glazed ceramics—but the project remained unfinished; In the 20th century, architect Pedro Fernández de Villa-Abrille resumed part of the project and completed it in 1912, in a Neo-Mudéjar style with exposed brick that harmonized with the surroundings of the Cathedral and the Teatro de Rojas.
