A little background
Founded in 1977.

he Gothic Market was founded in 1977, when the antique dealers on Carrer de la Palla in Barcelona decided to take their wares out onto the street and set up their market stalls in Plaça Nova, right in front of the cathedral. Almost fifty years later, it remains in the same location and is one of Barcelona’s oldest antique markets.
Every Thursday, its nearly thirty vendors bring together antiques and collectables, prints, timepieces, vintage jewelry, display pieces, and curiosities that are impossible to find in a typical store. Barcelona’s Gothic Market operates like a true antique market: professionals in the trade, pieces with documented provenance, and prices negotiated face-to-face.
The setting is part of the appeal. Plaça Nova is right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, between the Roman towers and the cathedral’s façade, so strolling through the Gothic Market blends seamlessly with a walk through Barcelona’s Old Town. At Christmas, the market expands and moves its market stalls to Avinguda de la Catedral.

How to Get a Stall at the Mercado Gótico
Would you like to set up a stall at the Mercado Gótico market, located at Barcelona? To sell as a street vendor, you need a municipal street vending permit or license: this is issued by the town council, not the market itself, and typically requires that you be registered as a self-employed individual or a business, be in good standing with the tax authorities and Social Security, and have liability insurance that covers the stall.
Mercado Gótico is held on variable number of days. The exact fee is set by the Barcelona town council; please check it before submitting your application.
Applications are submitted to the town council, usually online or in person, and may be granted directly (if there are open stalls) or through a public call for stall applications with a waiting list when demand exceeds the number of available stalls. You can download the municipal ordinance on street vending from Barcelona (check the town council’s official website to make sure it’s still in effect, in case it has been updated).
